Referring to "the wandering organ", an ancient belief that the woman's uterus could move about in the body. The belief endured until roughly the 18th to 19th century. The lyrics are loosely quoting Plato and a few other philosophers and their take on the "condition".
lyrics
In the middle flanks, a viscus
Looks like an animal
Moves itself hither and thither
Bubbling to the thorax flesh
Moves to the liver or spleen
The animal within the animal
A mind within a mind
The wandering organ
Moisten the hysteria
